BARD’S SONG

                            By Shelby Lee Chandler II

The Candle’s Light

To look at you by the candle’s light,

Brings other visions to my sight,

And even as the candles burn,

Each vision comes in its own turn.

A daughter in your mother’s arm,

A girl of youth, with all her charm,

A life of toys and dolls with names,

You only live to play your games.

A teenager out on her first date,

You made your parents stay up late,

But within that child, there was a trace,

Of womanhood that shined your face.

A college grad, you left your home,

A beautiful woman you have become,

But a career is all you had in mind,

So off you went to seek and find.

And though you worked, you became a wife,

To fill a void within your life,

So try you did to start anew,

To try and build a place for two.

Now you are a mother of three,

And you learned to raise a family,

So you raised your children till full grown,

Then off they went out on their own.

A grandmother on her rocking chair,

With a lovely smile, and silver hair,

A treasured life with memories,

And with this, ends all I see.

Then back I am with you in sight,

And amongst us burns the candle’s light,

Through all these visions, I’ll hold this true,

That for all these reasons, I’ll still love you.
